Laura Sardone

Laura Sardone is a Fixed-term Assistant Professor and researcher at the Department of Structural, Building and Geotechnical Engineering (DISEG) at the Polytechnic University of Turin. She is an invited member of both the College of Architecture and Design and the College of Civil and Building Engineering, reflecting her interdisciplinary role in engineering and architectural education and research.

Her research focuses on advanced computational methods in civil and structural engineering, particularly in algorithm-aided design, structural optimization, and applied artificial intelligence. Her work bridges civil engineering with computational mathematics, focusing on sustainable manufacturing, digital construction, and efficient structural systems. She integrates topics such as numerical analysis, topology, control theory, and scientific computing into practical engineering solutions.

The recent publications highlight a consistent trend in computational structural design, especially in optimizing variable-section beams and arches using advanced algorithms and simulation tools. These works reflect a strong emphasis on sustainability, efficiency, and digital innovation in construction, aligning with EU research goals in circular economy and smart infrastructure.

Laura Sardone actively supervises PhD students and contributes to major research initiatives such as the EU-funded ADAPT4CE project, which develops adaptive digital systems for sustainable construction in the circular economy. She teaches advanced courses in generative design, parametric modeling, and structural optimization at both PhD and master’s levels.

Her technical expertise spans multiple ERC sectors including artificial intelligence, computational engineering, civil engineering, and optimization.
