Alessandro Pasquale Fantilli

Alessandro Pasquale Fantilli is a Full Professor in the Department of Structural, Building and Geotechnical Engineering (DISEG) at Politecnico di Torino. He serves as Coordinator of the College of Civil and Building Engineering and is a member of the SISCON Interdepartmental Center for Safety of Infrastructures and Constructions. His academic work spans teaching, research, and leadership in sustainable structural engineering.

His research interests focus on reinforced concrete, eco-friendly high-performance concrete, cementitious materials, microfibers, and sustainability in construction. He explores innovative applications of recycled aggregates from demolition and tires, bio-based fibers, and industrial by-products like fly ash to develop sustainable construction solutions aligned with SDGs 9, 11, and 12.

The trend in his recent publications highlights a strong commitment to green construction materials, circular economy, and mechanical performance optimization. His work spans journals in cleaner production, materials and structures, and engineering structures, emphasizing ecological and mechanical synergy in novel composites.

He has supervised several PhD students and leads major research projects including EU-funded initiatives like SMILE CITY and RE-PLAN CITY LIFE. He is the Scientific Director or Manager for numerous commercial and competitive research contracts involving structural assessment, algorithm development, and sustainable material testing.

He teaches advanced courses such as Design of Sustainable Reinforced Concrete and Fiber-Reinforced Concrete Structures and Functional Concrete for Sustainable Constructions at both master’s and doctoral levels across Civil Engineering and Architecture for Sustainability programs.

His research is supported by a wide network of collaborations with public institutions, private companies, and EU programs, reflecting his role as a leader in sustainable structural materials innovation.
