Dr. Laura Sadofsky is a Senior Lecturer in Respiratory Medicine within the Centre for Biomedicine at Hull York Medical School, a joint institution of the University of Hull and University of York. She serves as Programme Director for the MSc in Pharmacology and Education and chairs the Athena SWAN committee, promoting gender equality in academia.
Her research focuses on ion channels (TRP channels, purinoceptors) in cough pathophysiology and airway inflammation, using human cell/tissue models to study viral and environmental triggers. Key projects include microplastics' impact on respiratory health and drug screening for channel blockers like TRPM8.
Recent publications highlight her work on microplastic quantification in surgical and atmospheric contexts, TRP channel modulation by plant-derived compounds, and ATP signaling in chronic cough. Collaborative projects span environmental health, respiratory microbiota, and pharmacological interventions for airway diseases.
She supervises PhD students in studies involving environmental contaminants, post-viral mechanisms, and respiratory infection modeling. Her external role as a British Pharmacological Society ambassador underscores her commitment to public engagement.
