Laura Rubio

Laura Rubio is an Assistant Professor of Spanish in the Department of Modern Languages & Classics at The University of Alabama. She serves as the Spanish 100-200 Level Program Director and oversees Spanish Proficiency Exams for Graduate Students.

• Education: M.A. in English Philology (Spain), Double B.A. in French and Spanish (University of Montevallo, AL), M.A. in Romance Languages (Spanish emphasis), and Ph.D. in Spanish Applied Linguistics (The University of Alabama)

Her research focuses on applied linguistics, specifically exploring the role of formative and summative classroom assessment in student motivation and achievement. She also investigates teaching methodology, self-assessment practices, and heritage speaker education.

Laura supervises Spanish proficiency exams and contributes to curriculum development for lower-level Spanish courses. Her work emphasizes assessment strategies that enhance language learning outcomes.
