Laura R Stein is an Assistant Professor in the School of Biological Sciences at the University of Oklahoma. Her research integrates genomics, physiology, neuroscience, and behavior to study how plasticity across biological scales drives evolutionary processes. She holds a Ph.D. in Ecology, Ethology, and Evolution from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, and a B.S. in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology from the University of Arizona.
Key research interests include behavioral plasticity, transgenerational effects, and evolutionary consequences of parental care. Her lab emphasizes interdisciplinary methods to explore mechanisms behind complex phenotypes and their evolutionary trajectories.
Recent work examines predator risk responses in Trinidadian guppies, heat wave impacts on sticklebacks, and the integration of biogeography with conservation strategies. Articles consistently focus on adaptive plasticity mechanisms linking individual experience to broader evolutionary outcomes.
Laura advocates for inclusive scientific environments, emphasizing equity in STEM and addressing systemic barriers faced by marginalized communities in science.
