Laura Prestwood is a Professor and Program Coordinator of Interior Design at Meredith College within the College of Human Environmental Sciences. She holds a PhD in Architecture from Texas A&M University (2010), MFA in Interior Design from Winthrop University (1999), and BSc in Interior Design from Meredith College (1990). Her professional credentials include NCIDQ certification, Registered Interior Designer (NC), and membership in organizations like the American Institute of Architects and International Association of Lighting Designers.
Her research focuses on placemaking, the symbolic connections between people and spaces, and the design of domestic violence shelters. She integrates her over 30 years of professional experience in healthcare, commercial, retail, and hospitality design into teaching. Key interests include architectural lighting design, feminist architecture theory, and embodied spatial perception.
