Laura Potter is a Senior Lecturer in the Design department at Goldsmiths, University of London. Her work focuses on craft theory, contemporary jewellery, and adornment, with a particular interest in the intersection of material practices and broader cultural narratives. She is a core member of DWFE, a collaborative design group critiquing contemporary consumption, and co-founded the Domestic Monsters Collective exploring domestic spaces and labor.
Her research integrates art and design, often blending traditional craft techniques with conceptual critiques. Notable projects include The Drowned Book (2024), a philosophical art piece engaging Wittgenstein’s legacy, and No Salami (2024), an embroidery series deconstructing iconic artworks. She has exhibited globally, including at the Hacked exhibition in Milan (2012) and the CRUD group show in London (2024).
Recognition includes the Jerwood Contemporary Makers’ Award (2010). Potter teaches in BA Design and leads collaborative workshops, such as the Alchemy series in the UAE and Yemen. Her work interrogates domestic labor, material ethics, and the politics of handmade objects.
Her creative outputs span installations, exhibitions, and publications, with a focus on reimagining craft through interdisciplinary lenses. Recent collaborations include the Domestic Monsters exhibition (2022) and projects with institutions like museumaker and the Florence Nightingale School of Midwifery.
