Dr. Laura Pogue is a Professor of English and holds the W.D. & Hollis R. Bond Endowed Chair of English at Howard Payne University (Howard Payne University). She is affiliated with the English Education department within the Cynthia Ann Parker College of Liberal Arts. Her primary role includes teaching American Literature with a special focus on Early American Literature, American women writers at the turn of the 19th to 20th centuries, creative writing, slavery narratives, and poetry. Additionally, she serves as an academic advisor to students pursuing 7-12 teacher certification in English. Dr. Pogue’s academic journey includes a Doctor of Philosophy in English from Baylor University (2000), a Master of Arts in English/Creative Writing from Hardin-Simmons University (1991), and a Bachelor of Arts in English/Communication from the same institution (1987).
Her research integrates her academic interests with a spiritual perspective, emphasizing the divine nature of language and storytelling. She views her teaching as a means to connect scholarly work with faith, particularly through the lens of biblical narratives and poetry. Dr. Pogue’s commitment to education extends beyond the classroom, supporting future educators through mentorship and curriculum guidance.
