Laura Pflug is a post-doctoral researcher affiliated with the Department of East Asian Studies at Humboldt University of Berlin. As a Gerda Henkel Fellow, she investigates nuclear entanglements between Taiwan, Germany, and China during the Cold War (1960-1989), focusing on nonproliferation and technology transfer. Previously, she completed her PhD summa cum laude at Ruhr University Bochum (2020) on spatial politics in 18th-19th century China using Mount Hua as a case study, supported by fieldwork in Shaanxi, China. She also served as a Research Fellow at the Leibniz Institute for Regional Geography (2016-2019), analyzing Chinese cartographic practices from the 19th century to today.

Recent publications highlight her work on Qing-era gazetteers, colonial-era cartography, and globalization-driven map analysis. She has been recognized with the Gerda Henkel Fellowship and summa cum laude distinction for her doctoral research. Her teaching at Humboldt University included modern/classical Chinese and Chinese history/culture courses.
