Laura McClure is a Professor of Classics and Mellon Morgridge Professor in the Humanities at the University of Wisconsin–Madison, College of Letters and Science. She holds the Halls-Bascom Professorship in Classical Literature Studies. Her primary affiliations include the Department of Classics and the Program in Gender and Women's Studies. McClure earned her PhD in Classical Languages and Literature from the University of Chicago (1991).
Her research focuses on Athenian drama, ancient gender studies, and classical reception, with particular attention to women's roles in Greco-Roman antiquity and modern reinterpretations of classical texts. She has authored monographs examining gender dynamics in Greek drama, ancient courtesan culture, and feminist literary criticism. Her edited volumes include interdisciplinary explorations of classical reception and gendered representations in antiquity.
McClure's academic leadership includes service as President of the Classical Association of the Middle West and South, and over a decade on the Board of Directors for the Society of Classical Studies, including roles as Senior Financial Trustee and Vice-President of Resources. She teaches undergraduate and graduate courses on Greek literature, drama, and women in antiquity. Her work has been supported by grants from the National Endowment for the Humanities and the Loeb Classical Library Foundation.
