Laura Marris is a Visiting Assistant Professor in the Department of English at the University at Buffalo. As a writer and translator, her work bridges creative writing, poetry, and translation theory, with a focus on environmental writing.

Her recent translations include Albert Camus’s The Plague and works by Geraldine Schwarz and Antonio Gramsci biographers. She co-authored States of Plague: Reading Albert Camus in a Pandemic (University of Chicago Press, 2022), exploring existential themes in crisis, and is completing her debut essay collection, The Age of Loneliness (Graywolf Press, 2024), which investigates intersections of ecological collapse and personal alienation.
Notable accolades include a MacDowell fellowship and a Robert B. Silvers Foundation Grant for Work in Progress. Her writing has appeared in The New York Times, The Believer, The Paris Review Daily, and other venues.
