Laura Mariño Pérez

Laura Mariño Pérez is an Associate Professor in the Department of Chemistry (Physical Chemistry area) at the University of the Balearic Islands since 2023, where she also serves as Vice Dean of the Faculty of Sciences. Her academic career spans teaching across multiple degree programs including Chemistry, Electronic Engineering, and Primary Education, while maintaining an active research program focused on protein biochemistry.

Her research primarily investigates intrinsically disordered proteins using advanced biophysical techniques, with particular emphasis on nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy. Her work explores how protein glycation affects molecular mechanisms critical to Parkinson's disease pathogenesis, including dopamine transport, inflammatory cascades through RAGE interaction, and protein coaggregation. She has developed expertise in protein crystallography, protein mutations, and specialized NMR techniques including relaxation and relaxation dispersion experiments.

Dr. Mariño Pérez has participated in over 28 national and international conferences with posters and oral presentations, including two invited talks. She has been actively involved in scientific dissemination through activities like Demolab, Ciència per a Tothom, and EstalQUIM, as well as the regional Chemistry Olympiad. She is a member of the REACMOL research group and the Interdisciplinary Group on Neurodegenerative, Vascular and Metabolic Diseases (INNoVAM). Her teaching portfolio includes numerous courses across undergraduate and graduate programs, with particular focus on physical chemistry, biological macromolecules, and optical spectroscopy.
