Laura Maria Gonzalez

Laura Maria Gonzalez is an Assistant Professor at the School of Architecture at Florida Atlantic University (FAU) and Director of the Microbial Assemblies Lab. Her work focuses on integrating living systems into architectural design through computational methods, additive manufacturing, and synthetic biology.

Research Interests center on engineered living materials and their application in architecture. She explores fabrication strategies that combine biology and material science to create responsive, sensing-enabled built environments.

Previous Roles include Visiting Lecturer at Cornell University's Department of Design Technology, instructor at Genspace (Brooklyn), and research collaborator/teaching fellow at MIT Media Lab. She has also worked as an architectural designer at Skidmore, Owings & Merrill (SOM).

Exhibitions of her work include displays at MIT Keller Gallery (2023), CCA Novack Gallery (2025), Bibliowicz Family Gallery at Cornell (2025), NYCxDESIGN at Cornell Tech (2025), and the London Design Biennale (2025).
