Laura Loth is an Associate Professor in the Department of Modern Languages and Literatures at Rhodes College, where she has taught since 2009. She contributes to interdisciplinary programs including Gender and Sexuality Studies, Film Studies, Environmental Studies, and Africana Studies.
Her research focuses on contemporary Francophone literature, particularly Caribbean and North African works, intersecting with postcolonial environmental studies, gender analysis, and trauma narratives. She has led study abroad programs to France, Morocco, and Martinique.
Her publications examine intersections of natural disasters, identity, and colonial legacies in Francophone fiction. She received a grant from the Ministry of French Culture’s French American Cultural Exchange Program to host the Tournées French Film festival in Memphis and co-directs the Global Rhodes Internationalization Steering Committee.

Loth earned her B.A. from the College of William and Mary and her M.A./Ph.D. from the University of Minnesota. She hosts a weekly podcast, “Spotlight on Lifelong Learning,” on WKNO 91.1 FM.
