Laura Little is an Associate Teaching Professor of Slavic Studies at Connecticut College, where she has served since 2012, and Faculty Director of the Global Learning Lab. Her expertise spans Russian and Eastern European cultural history, language education, and transnational political movements through artistic works.
Her educational background includes:
- B.A. from the University of Missouri-Columbia
- M.A. from the University of Wisconsin-Madison
- Ph.D. from the University of Wisconsin–Madison
Her research examines the artistic underground in post-Stalin USSR, particularly Russophone poet Elena Shvarts' rise in 1960s-70s Leningrad. Specializations include Russian literature, Soviet cultural history, Bulgarian language, Jewish emigration, and Slavic cuisines. She teaches courses like Utopia/Dystopia and Cold War Cultures analyzing protest art, migration, and US-Soviet relations through literature and film.
As Faculty Director of the Global Learning Lab, she oversees Walter Commons Language Fellows programming including international game nights, World Languages Day, and the Structured Independent Language Study program. She advises Slavic Studies students and promotes globally networked language education across campus, leveraging her proficiency in French, German, Latin, Czech, and Latvian.
