Laura Limonic is an Associate Professor and Chair of the Sociology Department at the College of Old Westbury, State University of New York. She holds a Ph.D. in Sociology from the CUNY Graduate Center (2014), along with degrees from Brandeis University and Columbia University. Her research focuses on immigration, particularly Latinx and Jewish immigrant experiences, exploring identity formation, religion, and integration in the U.S. and abroad.

Research Interests: Laura's work examines race, ethnicity, and religion among immigrant communities, with a focus on Latinx Jews, Chabad-Lubavitch in Latin America, and the intersection of immigration policy with identity. Her recent projects include studies on pandemic impacts on motherhood across racial groups and the role of transnational actors in Jewish diaspora communities.
Grants and Funding: Her research has been supported by the Berman Foundation, the Association for Jewish Studies, and the Templeton Trust. Laura also contributes to public policy research and advocacy related to immigration and education equity.
Labs/Teams: She leads the Sociology Department at SUNY Old Westbury and maintains an active research agenda with collaborations in both academic and policy spheres.
