Laura Krughoff is an Associate Professor of English and Director of the Gender and Queer Studies program at the University of Puget Sound. A fiction writer and essayist, she specializes in creative writing pedagogy and interdisciplinary research at the intersections of law, literature, and LGBTQ+ studies. Her work explores themes such as marriage equality, gender passing, and queer family formation.

Her research investigates the historical and legal frameworks shaping LGBTQ+ narratives, particularly through her debut novel My Brother’s Name (2014)—a Lambda Literary Award finalist—and her short story collection Wake in the Night. Current projects address religious harm and queer kinship in post-marriage-equality contexts.

Teaching includes courses like Advanced Fiction Writing, Queerly Scientific, and Gender and Genre. She advises creative writing students and maintains active collaborations with LGBTQ+ academic networks.
