Laura Jellicoe

Laura Jellicoe is a Professor of Flute at the Royal Academy of Music. She holds significant experience as a professional orchestral musician, serving as Sub-Principal Flute of the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic and Principal Flute with the English Symphony Orchestra. Her performance career includes roles with leading British orchestras such as the BBC Symphony Orchestra and Academy of St. Martin in the Fields, alongside solo engagements and chamber music collaborations with notable artists.

Her education includes studies at the Royal Northern College of Music (RNCM) under Clare Southworth, Peter Lloyd, Rachel Brown, and Richard Davis. She has also taught at Chetham’s School of Music and was Head of Flute at the RNCM, developing a teaching philosophy centered on expressive musicianship, breathing techniques, and individualized instruction. Her pedagogical work extends to masterclasses globally and contributions to music education through writings for Flute View and a forthcoming tutor book.

Award-winning performer and educator, Laura has judged competitions like BBC Young Musician of the Year and established the Ken Griffin Flute Prize through her role as Chair of Tattenhall Music Society.
