Laura J. Mueller, Ph.D. is an Assistant Professor of Philosophy in the Department of English, Philosophy and Modern Languages within the Sybil B. Harrington College of Fine Arts and Humanities at West Texas A&M University. She joined WTAMU in 2020 after serving as a Visiting Assistant Professor at Luther College (2015–2016) and Gustavus Adolphus College (2016–2020).

Research Interests
Dr. Mueller’s scholarship sits at the intersection of Philosophy of Culture, Philosophy of Education, and Philosophy as a Way of Life. Drawing on German theories of Bildung, she investigates how philosophical study can be personally transformative and how education shapes and sustains culture. Her work on Kant—especially the Critique of Judgment and his theory of personhood—explores the cultural and educational dimensions of personhood.
Publications & Editorial Work
Her recent articles examine the cultural power of personal objects and the role of Socratic dialogue in fostering resilient democratic practices. She also serves as an editor for Eidos. A Journal for Philosophy of Culture, an international open-access journal based at the University of Warsaw.
Teaching & Service
Dr. Mueller has taught a wide range of courses including Ethics, Introduction to Philosophy, Modern Philosophy, Environmental Philosophy, Social and Political Philosophy, and specialized seminars on Myth and Matriarchy. Alongside departmental colleagues, she helps organize the Philosophy Club, promoting extracurricular philosophical engagement.
