Dr. Laura J. Getty is a Professor of English at the University of North Georgia's College of Arts & Letters. She has been affiliated with the institution since 1999, serving in roles such as faculty advisor for Sigma Tau Delta (International English Honor Society) since 2001. Her expertise spans World Literature, British Literature, Medieval Studies, Mythology, and Composition Pedagogy. She has taught at Tsinghua University in Beijing as an exchange professor and contributed significantly to open-access literary anthologies with over 5,000 downloads across 101 countries.
Education: Ph.D. and M.A. in Comparative Literature from The Pennsylvania State University (1999 and 1995), and a B.A. in an independent major combining German, French, and Folklore from St. Mary's College of Maryland (1993).
Research focuses on medieval literature, pedagogy, and cultural studies. Her anthology projects aim to democratize access to literary materials through open-access platforms. Notable works include co-editing British Literature I and World Literature I, which serve as core textbooks in academic curricula.
Teaching spans courses such as Chaucer, Arthurian Legends, and Composition, reflecting her commitment to both classical texts and modern pedagogical strategies.
