Laura Herz is a Professor of Physics at the University of Oxford, leading the Semiconductors Group at the Clarendon Laboratory. She serves as Associate Head of the Mathematical, Physical and Life Sciences Division for Research. Her expertise spans semiconductor materials, with a focus on optoelectronic properties of perovskites and energy harvesting. Herz has over 165 peer-reviewed publications, >31,000 citations (h-index 67), and is a Clarivate Highly Cited Researcher since 2018. Awards include the Nevill Mott Medal and Friedrich-Wilhelm-Bessel Award.
Education: PhD in Physics (University of Cambridge, 2002), followed by a Research Fellowship at St John's College, Cambridge (2001–2003).
Research Interests: Fundamental science of semiconducting materials (hybrid systems, perovskites, organic-inorganic hybrids). Key themes include photophysical effects, charge-carrier dynamics, and light-harvesting for solar energy. Collaborates with chemists, theorists, and device physicists to advance photovoltaic technologies.
Publications: Recent work emphasizes perovskite dynamics, quantum confinement, and material interfaces. Highlights include Nature Communications, Science, and ACS Energy Letters contributions.
Awards & Roles: Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry, Institute of Physics, and University College Oxford. Associate Editor of Applied Physics Reviews and Chemical Physics Reviews. Recognized for teaching excellence (Oxford Student Union, 2018).
