معرفی
Professor Dr. Laura Hartmann is a faculty member in the Department of Macromolecular Chemistry at the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Heinrich Heine University Düsseldorf (HHU). She has held this position since March 1, 2023, and leads an active research group at the interface of chemistry and biology, with a focus on glycobiology and disease mechanisms.
Her research interests include:
- Chemical Glycobiology
- Aberrant Protein Glycosylation
- Congenital Disorders of Glycosylation (CDG)
- NGLY1 Deficiency and the Nrf1 Pathway
- Bioorthogonal Chemistry and Glycoanalysis
- Development of Molecular Tools for Biomolecule Analysis
The recent publications of Prof. Hartmann and her team reveal a strong trend in developing chemical tools for glycoprotein analysis, understanding rare genetic diseases like CDGs, and exploring therapeutic strategies for cancers such as multiple myeloma through modulation of the NGLY1/Nrf1 axis. Her work combines synthetic chemistry, biochemical analysis, and disease modeling.
Scientific awards and recognitions include:
- ERC Consolidator Grant (2022)
- Honored for contribution to the Wolf Prize 2022 special issue of the Israel Journal of Chemistry
Prof. Hartmann actively mentors and advises students, including PhD candidates Simon Walber, Georgia Partalidou, and Frauke Stoelting, as well as Master's and Bachelor's students. Her research is supported by competitive grants, including the ERC Consolidator Grant, and she collaborates with national and international researchers, such as Prof. Nicole Snyder and Dr. Jonathan Lim. She is also involved in academic outreach through initiatives like the Dr. Manfred Jäger Lecture series.
She leads a research laboratory focused on chemical glycobiology, where her team develops and applies bioorthogonal probes and investigates the molecular basis of glycosylation-related diseases. The lab is part of the broader Institute of Organic Chemistry and Macromolecular Chemistry at HHU and participates in research consortia such as GlycoPathogens.
