Laura Forbes is an Associate Professor in the Department of Family Relations & Applied Nutrition at the University of Guelph, affiliated with the College of Social & Applied Human Sciences. Her research focuses on dietary intake during key developmental stages, particularly adolescence and pregnancy, aiming to prevent chronic diseases like diabetes and obesity. She is a registered dietitian with expertise in clinical and community nutrition research.

Her research explores carbohydrate intake and health outcomes, notably through the APrON Study (a long-term pregnancy cohort) and the Sweet Moms Study. She investigates dietary sugar's effects on maternal and infant health, including gestational diabetes and pre-eclampsia. She also collaborates with dietitians on practice-based research, addressing malnutrition in cancer patients, renal dialysis patients, and ICU patients through improved tube feeding methods.
Dr. Forbes is open to collaborations with practicing dietitians and accepts graduate students for Fall 2026.
