Laura Ferguson is an Associate Professor of Population and Public Health Sciences at the Keck School of Medicine of the University of Southern California. She also serves as Director of the Program on Global Health & Human Rights and Director of Research at the Institute on Inequalities in Global Health. Additionally, she holds an affiliation with USC Dornsife’s Spatial Sciences Institute and is an Associate Research Professor at Amref International University in Kenya. She earned an MSc from the Harvard School of Public Health and a PhD from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine.
Her research focuses on structural and societal factors affecting health equity, with an emphasis on global health, human rights, and sexual/reproductive health. She collaborates extensively in low-income countries, particularly sub-Saharan Africa, addressing issues like HIV/AIDS, child health, and gender disparities. Dr. Ferguson advises the World Health Organization and UNAIDS and serves as an Associate Editor for Sexual and Reproductive Health Matters and American Journal of Public Health.
Her publications highlight themes such as health system reforms, legal barriers to care, and intersectional approaches to marginalized populations. Recent work includes studies on zoonotic infections in Uganda, LGBTQIA+ self-care during the pandemic, and global SRHR policy analysis.
