Laura Elizabeth Willis Calo is an Associate Professor of Health & Strategic Communication and Director of the M.S. in Public Relations program at Quinnipiac University's College of Communications, Computing & Engineering. She holds a BA, MA, and PhD in Communication from The Ohio State University. Her research focuses on strategic health communication, pedagogy, and gender communication dynamics.
Dr. Willis Calo teaches courses including Introduction to Public Relations (ADPR 101), Public Relations Research Methods (PRR 502), and graduate capstone courses. She previously served as faculty advisor for Quinnipiac's Lambda Pi Eta chapter (2016–2021) and on the National Faculty Advisory Board (2018–2020).
Her research examines media's impact on women's self-perception, gender representation in STEM communication, and health messaging efficacy. Notable areas include analyzing media portrayals affecting possible future selves, fertility decision-making, and gendered health magazine content.
Her published works explore interdisciplinary education strategies for crisis communication and the role of public relations in amplifying health research visibility. She emphasizes pedagogical innovation and media literacy in health communication contexts.
