Laura E. Davis

Laura E. Davis is an Associate Professor of Professional Practice of Journalism at the Annenberg School for Communication and Journalism, University of Southern California. She founded Stylebot, a widely adopted copy-editing chatbot for newsrooms, and previously held roles as digital news director of USC Annenberg’s Media Center, mobile editor at BuzzFeed, deputy mobile editor at the Los Angeles Times, and social media editor at Yahoo News. Her expertise spans digital media, entrepreneurship, social media strategy, and journalism innovation.

She teaches courses on audience engagement, mobile storytelling, and product development at USC. Her research focuses on media industries, journalism science, and technology’s impact on news production. Davis holds a Webby Award and multiple innovation accolades for her work in newsroom disruption and workflow redesign. She advises the Trusting News project and has contributed to outlets like Nieman Lab and MediaShift.
