Laura Diamond is an Associate Professor at Griffith University's School of Health Sciences and Social Work and Deputy Director of the Australian Centre for Precision Health and Technology (PRECISE). She is also an NHMRC Emerging Leadership Fellow with a background in biomedical engineering (B.Eng and M.A.Sc. from Dalhousie University, Canada) and a PhD in biomechanics from The University of Melbourne. Her research focuses on developing and applying novel technologies to understand and treat biomechanical mechanisms of musculoskeletal and orthopaedic conditions.

Laura Diamond's research interests center on biomechanics, orthopaedics, and precision health technology for musculoskeletal conditions. Her work integrates computational modeling, neuromusculoskeletal analysis, and advanced technology development to address challenges in hip osteoarthritis, femoroacetabular impingement, and movement disorders. She has pioneered approaches using EMG-informed modeling, physics-informed neural networks, and smart garment technology for real-world biomechanical assessment and rehabilitation.
Her 15 most recent publications reveal a strong focus on hip biomechanics, osteoarthritis, and computational modeling. The research spans from fundamental biomechanical investigations to clinical applications, with particular emphasis on joint contact forces, muscle function, and movement analysis in pathological conditions. Recent work increasingly incorporates machine learning and AI approaches for real-time biomechanical assessment.

Laura Diamond has a strong record of research mentoring and training, with 8 PhD completions and currently supervising 10 PhD candidates. She is actively involved in the Griffith Centre of Biomedical and Rehabilitation Engineering (GCORE) and leads the Australian Centre for Precision Health and Technology (PRECISE).
As an advocate for women in STEM, she has developed mentoring programs to encourage schoolgirls' participation in biomechanics and related fields, demonstrating her commitment to both research excellence and community engagement.
