معرفی
Professor Chris Carty is Deputy Head of School (Research) in the School of Medicine and Dentistry at Griffith University and a Professor in the Griffith Centre of Biomedical and Rehabilitation Engineering (GCORE). He is also a member of the Australian Centre for Precision Health and Technology (PRECISE) and the Disability & Rehabilitation research group.
Education
- Doctor of Philosophy – University of Queensland (2009)
- Bachelor of Human Movement Studies – University of Queensland (2003)
Research Interests
Professor Carty’s research integrates clinical motion analysis, neuromusculoskeletal modelling, paediatric orthopaedics, medical devices, and 3D printing/additive manufacturing. His work focuses on translating computational simulation and advanced manufacturing into clinical practice to improve surgical and rehabilitation outcomes for children with lower-limb deformities and movement disorders.
Scientific Awards
- Winston Churchill Fellowship (2017)
- Clinical Researcher Award
- Outstanding Researcher Award
Research Funding & Teams
He has attracted >AUD $7 million in competitive funding from NHMRC-MRFF, ARC Industrial Transformation Centres, Queensland Health, Children’s Hospital Foundation, ISAKOS, and industry partners. Current flagship projects include the ARC ITTC Surgical Planning and Implant Development for Paediatric Bone Deformities and the MRFF National Data Infrastructure for Cerebral Palsy. He leads multidisciplinary teams across GCORE, ADaPT (Advanced Design and Prototyping Technologies Institute), and Queensland Health clinicians to advance personalised medical devices and data-driven care pathways.
Doctoral & Masters Supervision
Professor Carty has supervised >20 higher-degree research students as principal or associate supervisor, including current projects on cerebral-palsy gait mechanics, ACL reconstruction optimisation, AI-enhanced motion capture, and 3D-printed implants.
