Laura Daniela Ferrer Trovato

Laura Daniela Ferrer Trovato is a full Professor in the Department of Chemistry at the University of the Balearic Islands (UIB), specializing in Analytical Chemistry. She serves as the principal investigator of the Environmental Analytical Chemistry (EnviroChem) research group and is a key researcher at the Environmental Radioactivity Laboratory (LaboRA). Since 2024, she has directed the Master's Degree in Environmental Radiological Protection, a collaborative program involving seven Spanish universities. Her work is supported by the Nuclear Safety Council (CSN) through a dedicated environmental monitoring agreement.

Her research centers on methodological development for detecting environmental contaminants, particularly radionuclides. She has led five competitive R&D projects and contributed to 21 others, all funded through public competitive calls. With over 70 indexed articles, five book chapters, and two books, her scholarly output is substantial. She has supervised nine doctoral theses, underscoring her role in academic mentoring.

Her recent publications demonstrate a strong trend toward automation and miniaturization in analytical chemistry, especially using 3D-printed devices, flow injection systems (MSFIA, SIA), and smartphone-based detection for on-site environmental monitoring of pharmaceuticals and radionuclides. This reflects a focus on green, rapid, and field-deployable analytical methods.

She has been recognized with four six-year research fellowships and five five-year teaching fellowships, highlighting excellence in both research and pedagogy.

Laura Ferrer actively mentors graduate students and has secured significant research funding through national and regional competitive grants. Her leadership extends to directing major academic programs and managing large-scale environmental monitoring projects.
