Laura Cuijpers is an Assistant Professor at the Department of Developmental Psychology within the Faculty of Behavioural and Social Sciences at the University of Groningen. Her research focuses on the dynamical systems perspective of joint action, exploring affordances and agency in social systems through embodied tasks. She investigates conflict interactions, movement coordination in physical conflict, and agency enhancement via movement. Key projects include 'Conflict in Motion,' 'Moving Patterns of Behaviour,' and collaborations on antifragility with international researchers.
Her educational contributions include developing innovative modules like the 'Movement Workshop' and 'Creating Your Own Course,' emphasizing experiential learning and future planning. She coordinates the interdisciplinary Sport Science minor and teaches across bachelor’s and master’s programs. Her work bridges research and education, advocating for hybrid teaching models post-pandemic.
Cuijpers’ lab developed the Remo measurement system for on-water rowing performance analysis. She actively engages the public through media, talks, and outreach initiatives, including women’s self-defense courses. Her research has been featured in Dutch media and international journals, highlighting breakthroughs in rowing biomechanics and interpersonal coordination dynamics.
