Laura Cardella is an Assistant Professor of Finance at the Rawls College of Business, Texas Tech University. She holds a PhD in Finance from the University of Arizona, an MS in Quantitative Financial Economics from Oklahoma State University, and a BA in Economics and Mathematics from the University of Mississippi. Her research focuses on market microstructure, price formation, and the intersection of financial markets with corporate decisions.
Her research interests include topics such as liquidity analysis, high-frequency trading (HFT), and the determinants of corporate cash reserves. She has published in journals like the Journal of Corporate Finance and Journal of Financial Economics. Her work has explored systematic volume spikes linked to HFT activity, liquidity-based trading fees, and the impact of computerization on financial markets.
Dr. Cardella has received multiple teaching awards, including the Rawls College of Business Excellence in Teaching Award (2016) and repeated Mortar Board recognitions. She has served on PhD committees for multiple students, advised professional organizations like the Finance Association, and contributed to academic service roles such as the Finance Department Recruiting Committee and Undergraduate Curriculum Committee. Her professional activities include refereeing for top journals and presenting at conferences like the Financial Management Association and European Financial Management Association.
