معرفی
Laura Beth Chomiuk is a Professor in the Department of Physics & Astronomy at Michigan State University, specializing in stellar evolution, stellar explosions (novae, supernovae), and their feedback effects on star formation. Her research integrates multi-wavelength observations, with a focus on radio astronomy using facilities like the Jansky Very Large Array (VLA), SOAR, and Fermi.
- Education:
- Ph.D., Astronomy, University of Wisconsin-Madison (2010)
- M.S., Atmospheric & Oceanic Sciences, University of Wisconsin-Madison (2006)
- B.A., Astronomy and Physics, Wesleyan University (2003)
Chomiuk investigates novae and supernovae through radio observations to constrain ejection physics, circumstellar environments, and progenitor models. She leads projects on black holes in globular clusters (MAVERICS survey), supernova remnants in Local Group galaxies, and the Galactic nova rate using ASAS-SN.
Her scientific contributions have been recognized through the prestigious Jansky Fellowship at the National Radio Astronomy Observatory. She actively engages in public outreach as co-director of the MSU Observatory and oversees its undergraduate research program (MORP).
- Scientific Awards:
- Jansky Fellow of the National Radio Astronomy Observatory
