Lau Morten Kaas is a Postdoctoral Researcher at the Department of Physics, Technical University of Denmark (DTU), affiliated with the VISION – Center for Visualizing Catalytic Processes. His research develops graphene-based in situ transmission electron microscopy (TEM) techniques for real-time catalysis studies under operational conditions.
His core research interests include:
- Graphene and ultrathin graphite applications for in situ TEM sealing
- Thermal dynamics and gas permeation of nanomaterials
- Reaction condition analysis in catalytic environments
- Electrocatalysis mechanisms in CO2 reduction
Kaas's recent publications (2022-2025) reveal a cohesive trajectory in advanced characterization methodologies. His 2025 Nature Nanotechnology paper established an operando X-ray platform for catalyst degradation analysis in CO2 electrolysis, while 2023 works pioneered graphene seals for in situ TEM and quantified thermal dynamics in few-layer structures. These contributions bridge materials science with practical catalytic process optimization.
He completed his PhD at DTU (2022-2025) on 'Electrocatalysis by Single Nanoparticles in Liquid Environments' under P.C.K. Vesborg (main supervisor), S. Helveg, and J. Kibsgaard. As a current VISION Center postdoc, he continues to innovate atomic-scale visualization techniques for industrial catalysis applications.
