Latoya Callender serves as a Professorial Lecturer in the Department of Health Studies at American University. She holds a PhD in Public Health with a concentration in Community Health from Walden University, an MS in Administration (Health Service Administration) from Central Michigan University, and a BS from Hampton University.
Her research critically examines:
- HIV prevention strategies
- Health disparities among women
- Complementary and Alternative Medicines (CAM)
- Social determinants of health in Afro-Caribbean populations
With extensive federal and community-level experience in health promotion programs, Dr. Callender integrates real-world expertise into her Spring 2025 curriculum including HLTH-245 Multicultural Health, HLTH-250 Strategies in Stress Management, and HLTH-294 Community Service Learning Project.
