Lasse Suonperä Liebst is an Associate Professor at the Department of Sociology, University of Copenhagen, and Senior Researcher at the Netherlands Institute for the Study of Crime and Law Enforcement (NSCR). He chairs the Study Board at the Department of Sociology and holds a PhD in Sociology from the University of Copenhagen (2014).
Research Focus: His work spans micro-sociology, social psychology, criminology, and primate/human ethology. Key areas include bystander behavior in violent emergencies, public compliance with pandemic measures, and workplace violence in residential institutions. He pioneered video-observational methods to study interpersonal behavior, advocating for their broader use in social sciences.
Methodological Expertise: Combines quantitative research with naturalistic video observation, advancing techniques like covert systematic social observations and computer vision analysis of surveillance footage.
Teaching: Teaches micro-sociology, cultural sociology, and quantitative methods. Leads courses like Kultur, livstil og hverdagsliv and supervises theses across methodologies.
Collaborations: Works with postdoc Camilla Bank Friis on workplace victimization studies and NSCR’s Video Group. Research has been published in journals like Journal of Interpersonal Violence and Culture and Evolution.
Labs & Teams: Active in the NSCR Video Group and leads projects at the intersection of criminology and social behavior analysis.
