Lars Tjelta Westlye is a Professor at the Department of Psychology, University of Oslo and Core Researcher/Group Leader at the NORMENT Center (Norwegian Center for Mental Disorders Research) at Oslo University Hospital. His research integrates neuroimaging, genetics, and machine learning to investigate mechanisms underlying severe neuropsychiatric disorders like schizophrenia and bipolar disorder, with a focus on translational approaches and lifespan perspectives.
- Education: PhD (2011), Cand. Psychol. (2007) from University of Oslo
Research interests include brain network modeling, neuroplasticity, and multimodal MRI analysis (DTI, fMRI) to study cross-disorder validation and clinical specificity. Collaborations span FMRIB Centre (Oxford), MMIL (UCSD), and NORMENT’s interdisciplinary teams.
Recent publications highlight applications of brain age prediction, polygenic risk scores, and functional connectivity analysis in understanding mental disorders. He mentors Cand. Psychol., MA, and PhD students in related research areas.
