Lars Strother is an Associate Professor in Psychology at the University of Nevada, Reno, affiliated with the Institute for Neuroscience. His research focuses on sensory, cognitive, and motor functions using neuroimaging (fMRI) and behavioral methods. Central interests include perceptual organization, the neural basis of reading, face recognition, visual aesthetics, and cerebral laterality. He holds a Ph.D. from the University of Virginia (2006) and a B.S. from the University of Wisconsin-Madison (1992).
Research interests span multiple domains including:
- Perceptual organization and form perception
- Neural mechanisms of word recognition and reading
- Face perception and object recognition
- Action, intention, and motor control
- Visual aesthetics and art cognition
His recent work explores hemispheric specialization in visual processing, the effects of divided attention on face recognition, and the real object advantage in memory. Notable contributions include studies on the Visual Word Form Area's role in developmental dyslexia and the functional separation of font-invariant neural populations.
Labs: Directs the Perception and Cognitive Neuroscience Lab. Courses taught include advanced topics in perceptual organization, neuroaesthetics, and vision-language interactions.
