Lars Mørch Korslund is an Associate Professor in the Department of Natural Sciences at the University of Agder, Norway. With a Ph.D. in ecology from the University of Oslo (2006), he has been actively contributing to ecological research and education since joining UiA in 2009. His work focuses on understanding ecological processes in seasonal environments and host-parasite dynamics, with significant contributions to tick ecology and wildlife conservation.
Dr. Korslund holds:
- M.Sc. in Biology from the University of Oslo
- Ph.D. in Ecology from the University of Oslo (2006)
- Postgraduate teacher training certificate from the University of Oslo
His primary research interests span several critical areas in modern ecology:
- Seasonal Ecosystem Dynamics - Investigating how short-term weather variations and long-term climate changes affect populations in highly seasonal environments
- Parasite-Host Interactions - Studying the complex relationships between ticks, small mammals, and disease transmission
- Wildlife Conservation - Focusing on endangered species like the European pool frog and developing methods for biodiversity monitoring
- Urban Ecology - Examining how species like hedgehogs adapt to urban environments
Analysis of Dr. Korslund's recent publications reveals a strong focus on tick ecology and zoonotic diseases, with significant work on the distribution and behavior of Ixodes ricinus ticks across Scandinavia. His research increasingly incorporates advanced methodologies including environmental DNA analysis, deep learning for species identification, and spatial modeling to predict disease risk. Much of his work addresses the intersection of climate change, biodiversity conservation, and public health, demonstrating how ecological research can inform practical conservation and disease prevention strategies.
Dr. Korslund actively contributes to academic education through teaching courses including:
- BIO113 - Evolutionary Biology
- BIO300 - Bachelor's Thesis in Biology
- BIO112 - Introduction to Biology
- MA143 - Biostatistics
- Nat114 - Science 1A common subject
- Nat108 - Science 2
