Lars Johanning

Professor Lars Johanning is Chair in Ocean Technology and Associate Head of School (Research) at the University of Plymouth's School of Engineering, Computing and Mathematics. His research focuses on hydrodynamics of marine structures, station keeping systems for offshore renewable energy, and aquaculture engineering. He pioneered the Falmouth Bay marine energy test site and contributes to international standards (IEC/TC114) and EU Ocean Energy Roadmap development.

His awards include the Institution of Civil Engineers Gold Medal (2019) for lifetime contributions to civil engineering. Current projects include WEDUSEA (wave energy commercialization) and MoorWEC (innovative WEC mooring systems).

Internationally, he co-chairs China Council task teams on ocean governance and holds visiting positions at ENSTA (France), Dalian University (China), and CUHK (Hong Kong).
