Lars E.O. Svensson is an internationally renowned macroeconomist who holds the title of Affiliated Professor at the Institute for International Economic Studies, Stockholm University, and at the Stockholm School of Economics. He previously served as Professor of Economics at Princeton University (2001–2009) and Professor of International Economics at Stockholm University (1984–2003), and was Deputy Governor of Sveriges Riksbank from 2007 to 2013.
He earned an M.S. in Applied Mathematics from the Royal Institute of Technology (1971), a B.A. in economics, economic history and mathematics from Stockholm University (1973), and a Ph.D. in economics from Stockholm University (1976). He has held visiting appointments at MIT, Harvard, Columbia, NYU, UC Berkeley, UC Santa Barbara, Tel Aviv University, the Federal Reserve Banks of New York and the Board of Governors, the IMF, the Bank of England, and many other leading institutions.
His research spans macroeconomics, monetary economics, international macroeconomics and finance, international trade, and intertemporal general equilibrium theory. Particular themes include optimal monetary policy, exchange-rate regimes, liquidity traps, and policy rules.
