Larry Zimmerman serves as Adjunct Professor of Trombone and Euphonium at the University of St. Thomas, College of Arts and Sciences, Department of Music, Film & Creative Enterprise. As an active performer, he holds positions including Principal Trombonist of the Duluth-Superior Symphony Orchestra and membership in the Grammy-winning Chestnut Brass Company.
Zimmerman maintains an active performance career with engagements across Minnesota, including performances with the Minnesota Orchestra and St. Paul Chamber Orchestra. His specialty includes period brass instruments such as Renaissance sackbuts and 19th-century saxhorns. He regularly performs as a soloist and chamber musician, particularly focusing on new music compositions.
Educational background includes degrees from St. Olaf College and Boston University. He teaches low brass at multiple institutions including St. Olaf College, Bethel University, and the University of St. Thomas, covering performance techniques across historical and contemporary repertoires.
His instructional responsibilities include individual performance studies for trombone and euphonium students at both undergraduate and graduate levels, emphasizing technical proficiency and artistic interpretation.
