Larry Stillman is an Adjunct Senior Research Fellow in the Department of Human Centred Computing, Faculty of Information Technology, Monash University, and also serves as an Adjunct Senior Researcher at the Monash University Research Foundation in Prato, Italy. His work bridges academia and community development, focusing on the ethical and social dimensions of information technology in marginalized contexts.
His research interests include Community Informatics, Development Informatics, and the application of critical theories such as post-colonialism, feminism, disability theory, and Marxism to Information Systems. He emphasizes qualitative methodologies including grounded theory, critical ethnography, and storytelling, especially in participatory and community-based research settings.
The recent articles highlight a strong trend in ICT for Development (ICT4D), particularly in rural Bangladesh, focusing on women's empowerment through smartphones, ethical challenges in social media research, and positionality in fieldwork. Larry Stillman has supervised PhD students and served as an examiner at the University of South Africa (UNISA).
