Larry K Brown

Larry K Brown is a Professor of Psychiatry and Human Behavior at Brown University. He serves as Academic Director of the Division of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry and Vice Chair of the Department of Psychiatry and Human Behavior. His research focuses on HIV prevention among adolescents and young adults, particularly those with psychiatric disorders, juvenile offenders, and Southern Black MSM. He has developed mobile gaming interventions for medical adherence and family-based programs for HIV/STI prevention.

Dr. Brown's research integrates behavioral science with HIV prevention, emphasizing implementation science and digital health tools. He leads NIH-funded projects including R34MH113384 (MySTYLE: online family-based intervention for Southern Black adolescent males), R34MH111342 (mobile PrEP intervention for Black MSM), and R34MH115744 (telemedicine for PrEP in Mississippi). His work also addresses the intersection of mental health, substance abuse, and HIV risk behaviors.

His publications demonstrate expertise in HIV care adherence, PrEP implementation, adolescent risk behaviors, and family-based interventions. Recent studies include projects on virtual reality emotion regulation tools, mobile gaming for adherence, and socioecological predictors of HIV risk.
