Larry George is Professor of International Politics at California State University, Long Beach, and former Director of the Program in International Studies. His research focuses on the intersections of political violence, sovereignty, and the historical role of human sacrifice in political systems. He received his B.A. in History and Biological Sciences from the University of California, Irvine, and his M.A. and Ph.D. from Princeton University's Political Philosophy Program.
His recent work, including the concept of pharmacotic violence, explores how political societies frame war as medicine, poison, and addiction. Publications span topics like U.S. hegemony, Leo Strauss’s influence, and the ontopolitical dimensions of conflict. His notable articles include analyses of pharmacotic wars (2009), 9/11 (2001), and critiques of executive power (1998). Current projects examine the ethical dilemmas of global governance and activist-driven political change.
