Larry Alan Fahnestock

Larry Alan Fahnestock is a Professor in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. He holds the title of Siess Faculty Scholar and serves as Director of the Newmark Structural Engineering Laboratory. His research focuses on structural systems, seismic design, and bridge engineering, with emphasis on braced frames, bridge dynamics, and integral abutments. Fahnestock has contributed to over 135 scholarly outputs, including peer-reviewed articles and datasets.

Key honors include the Walter L. Huber Civil Engineering Research Prize (2014) and participation in the US Frontiers of Engineering Symposium (2015). His work spans experimental and numerical evaluations of structural behavior under live loads, seismic activity, and thermal effects.
