Larisa Lezina serves as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Biomedical Sciences at the School of Medicine. With an h-index of 14 and 1,126 citations according to Scopus, she maintains an active research program spanning from 1998 to the present, with significant publication output in recent years including 2025, 2024, and 2023.
Her research focuses on several interconnected areas in cancer biology:
- Protein interactions and signaling pathways in cancer (100% of her work)
- Molecular mechanisms of tumor development (91% focused on cancer)
- Genetic and epigenetic factors in cancer progression (53% genes, 47% tumors)
- Cell cycle regulation and apoptosis mechanisms (45% cell cycle, 41% apoptosis)
- Receptor biology and transcription factor networks (41% receptors, 38% transcription factors)
Dr. Lezina's recent publications reveal a strong translational research focus, combining molecular biology approaches with clinical applications. Her work spans lung cancer, breast cancer, and molecular targeting strategies, with particular emphasis on developing novel therapeutic approaches and validating molecular targets through patient-derived models.
Her significant contributions include research on CD320 receptor pathways, development of patient-derived cancer explant platforms, nanotechnology approaches to receptor modulation, and investigations into molecular inhibitors for cancer therapy.
Dr. Lezina currently leads two major research projects:
- Patient derived lung cancer explants as a platform for validation of the correlation between CD320 and mutant p53 (2024-2026)
- Search for new therapeutic targets in antitumor therapy for breast cancer by genome-wide screening using the CRISPR method (2024-2026)
