Lara Wallberg is a Postdoctoral Researcher at the Max Planck Institute for Meteorology in Hamburg, Germany, since 2024, and a recent PhD graduate from the same institution (2020-2023). She works under the supervision of Wolfgang Müller in the Earth System Modelling and Predictions group within the Department of Climate Variability.
Education:
- M.Sc. in Meteorology (2017-2019), University of Hamburg
- B.Sc. in Meteorology (2013-2017), Leibniz-University Hannover
Her research focuses on sub-decadal climate variability, particularly the mechanisms driving European summer heat extremes and their connections to North Atlantic oceanic heat accumulation. She investigates how these mechanisms enhance the predictability of extreme temperatures, with applications in agricultural decision-making. Her work integrates climate modeling, observational data, and statistical analysis.
Recent publications highlight her contributions to understanding heat extremes, polar jet stream dynamics, and climate predictability. Her work has been published in journals like Earth System Dynamics and Geophysical Research Letters, with additional studies in preparation and review.
Grants:
- European Union’s Horizon Europe project ASPECT (current Postdoc funding)
Labs & Teams:
- Earth System Modelling and Predictions working group, Department of Climate Variability, Max Planck Institute for Meteorology
- IMPRS-ESM (International Max Planck Research School for Earth System Modelling)
