Dr Lara Stevens is a Lecturer in English at Charles Sturt University's School of Social Work and Arts, based at the Albury/Wodonga campus. Her multidisciplinary work bridges literature, performance, and environmental philosophy, with a core focus on artistic responses to the climate emergency. She holds a PhD from the University of Melbourne and teaches across English literature, critical theory, and media writing.
Her research examines ecological consciousness in performance and literature. Current projects include leading the ARC Discovery Project 'Towards an Australian Ecological Theatre' analyzing environmental depictions in Australian drama since the 1950s, and co-authoring 'Performing Climates' (Routledge 2024) on climate-conscious performance. She will present the performance art piece 'Petroverse' at Melbourne's Science Gallery in 2024, addressing plastic pollution's impact on bodies and ecosystems.
Stevens has authored Anti-War Theatre After Brecht (2016), edited Feminist Ecologies: Changing Environments in the Anthropocene (2018), and translated works by Hélène Cixous. She contributes to public discourse through ABC News, Crikey, Meanjin, and commentary for Melbourne International Arts Festival, Melbourne Theatre Company, and Climarte Festival.
