Lara Cox

Lara Cox is a Lecturer at the University of Toulouse 2 Jean Jaurès, affiliated with the Center for Anglophone Studies (CAS). She teaches in the fields of LANSAD and LLCE, with a research focus on visual culture, transatlantic studies, and gender studies. Her academic work bridges performance, art history, and critical theory.

Her research interests center on visual culture through an intermedial lens, particularly the intersections of performing arts, cinema, and art history. She explores transatlantic cultural exchanges, focusing on American artists in France and the reception of African American culture in Europe. A major theme in her work is gender and intersectionality, especially the role of white women in avant-garde movements and the decolonization of artistic spaces. She also investigates critical whiteness and the aesthetics of the Theater of the Absurd in political and social contexts.

Her recent publications reveal a strong trend in analyzing race, gender, and power in 20th-century visual and theatrical arts. She frequently examines how marginalized voices are represented or excluded in mainstream cultural narratives, with a particular focus on African American artists, feminist interventions in art, and the politics of curation. Her work combines archival research with theoretical rigor, often drawing from postcolonial, feminist, and critical race theories.
