معرفی
Lara Barnes is a Senior Lecturer in Pharmaceutical Microbiology at the University of Brighton, affiliated with the School of Applied Sciences. She holds roles including Subject Lead for Pharmaceutical Microbiology, Assistant Course Leader for MPharm Year 3, and Case Leader for microbiology-relevant teaching cases. Her research focuses on biofilms, antimicrobial alternatives (e.g., bacteriophages and nanoparticles), and the development of co-culture models for infection studies. Notable projects include investigating biofilm inhibition in urinary catheters and eco-friendly antimicrobial textiles.
Education: BSc in Microbiology (Biotechnology) from the University of Surrey, followed by a PhD on bacterial biofilms in milk processing systems. Postdoctoral work included biofilm studies in bottled water and activated-carbon biomaterials.
Research interests emphasize biofilm-driven infections, particularly in cystic fibrosis and urinary tract contexts, alongside antibiotic resistance challenges. She contributed to a project on efflux pump inhibition to combat Proteus mirabilis infections. Teaching innovations include MicroSurgery forums and self-assessment videos for infection control education.
Awards: Nominated for the University of Brighton Award for Excellence in Facilitating and Empowering Learning. Grants: Co-Investigator on a project addressing urinary catheter-related infections (2012–2014).
Supervisory roles include PhD projects on colicin protein interactions and eco-friendly antimicrobial textiles. Active in interdisciplinary teams exploring nanomaterials and in-cell NMR techniques for microbial studies.
